Presentation

I think this is very planned out, it has bullet points so I am not reading from the powerpoint, and I can effectively show off my idea and present/pitch it well. If I were to be critical about it, I feel that I could add my own digital art and make it more interesting to look at. I could also show off bits of research I have done. To make the pitch more engaging I could have questions for the audience to think about and answer at the end of the pitch.

Pitch

The pitch went terribly, I didn't explain what I was going to do, I was more focused on how I was going to do it. I didn't have any work to show and I didn't say what the characters will look like. For my referred pitch I will add some digital art I have done and I will also change the ages and genre the game the characters will be for, as the genres were complete opposites and the age was too high. I will also give an idea of what the characters will look like, so I can clearly show my thought process and what I will be doing.

Peer Review

Notes.png

I agree that my research is very lacking because I have only two pictures that are referenced and they are not explained...so for my targets I will be explaining what those pictures mean and why they are apart of my research. I will also look into another students website to see what they researched and how they explained it so I can get a better understanding of what I can research to make my stuff better. My research is lacking because I dont do the research because I know what I am doing and don't look at stuff. I have an idea in my head and I create stuff using my imagination. The only time I actually do research is if I had inspiration from a certain game, which is a flaw I aim to correct.

Here my website was slightly better than last time. My research is still lacking and my peer review also states that its bad. So to change I am going to research more clothes, maybe get some pencil sketches of my characters and more references.

Formative Assessment

This was the last formative review I had before the deadline. I think my website greatly improved from last time. I have increased my research a lot, added some primary research and added way more references to my bibliography. However, I still do need to add things like environmental research and pencil sketches.

Context

I do not know how I came up with the idea, it suddenly popped into my head one time, and I had my heart set on it. My goal was to design five characters each with their own designs.

I felt managed to create a product that’s like my original intentions, because I did not have a better idea. I liked the idea I had already thought off and wanted to do it as my final project.

Now that my project is complete, I do have a better understanding of the genre of my product, I have managed to connect to the RPG theme by doing research on clothes in RPG’s and replicating them onto my character.

Research

Deciding what I needed to research was hard, because the idea popped into my head, and I was not really influenced by anything. But then I realised I could research the general meaning for furries and the clothes I wanted to put them in.

I feel like my research was lacking at the start, as I had only researched one game that had furry aspects in and spoke about it, and that was it. But as of right now when I added another game based on furries, clothes that I wanted to put on my characters and what furries are, I feel like I have made my research more thorough. However, it could be better, as I could do more research around more games with furries in.

Over the course of the project, I did two bits of primary research. The first was to ask questions that would give me inspiration, such as “What should I add to my map?” The answers the audience had to choose from were Castle, Forests, Desert and Snow. The top three answers would give me an idea of a location that I could research to get clothes ideas. The second bit of Primary research I did, I was asking my audience which designs they liked better. This was to influence me to use the best voted designs to create the one final piece using the best head shot with the best clothes.

My research did allow me to create something new. This is because I just drew the characters shape, I did not know what I was going to have them wear. So, I researched clothes that are used in the locations that were chosen in my primary research, so that I could create the new designs for my characters.

Practical Skills

Over the project, I did learn some new skills, such as using Google Forms to get instant feedback, and inspiration for my projects. This allows for me to quickly see what the audience is thinking about my project and will give me ideas on what to add and/or change. I did this because it was the quickest and easiest way, I knew that I could get multiple responses at once with pie charts and summaries of the answers rather than going out and randomly asking one person at a time, which would have made the overall process slower.

This will help in future projects, when I want feedback on things, I have designed to see what my audience like, dislike and what could be changed to improve the design. It will also help give ideas, if I am stuck and do not know what to draw, the research will be able to give me some ideas, as I would know what my audience wants to see.

I feel I utilised my resources because, I used the internet to get my research done and to make the questionnaires to get feedback. I also used my digital art pad so I could draw easier.

I feel that my practical skills did help me create a product that was suitable for my desired genre, this is because I did my primary research where I had asked my audience what they thought would best fit an RPG, and most of the responses said the same thing, “Armour”. So, I made an armour design for all my characters. So, that is why I feel that my practical skills helped create a product with the desired genre.

My most valued development was finding out what my audience thought on my designs. I really liked hearing my audience’s opinions and it was helpful to know so that I could make the final design with the desired outfit and facial features.

Reflection

On going reflection, has helped me see any flaws in my designs. For example, for Chronos’ thorny armour I added to many thorns, and it looked terrible. So, I erased some of the thorns and just left the thorns on the wrists and shoulders, even adding some to them to make it look rounded. This improved the overall look massively.

I did manage my project well, I found out when trying to make the thorny armour helmet, that it looked basically like a giant balloon and did not look like armour at all. So, I manged to make it look better, by not adding a helmet at all and just having the chest plate and leggings.

Reflection has helped me analyse my own performance, because I found out that I had lacked motivation and didn’t bother to draw much. This had resulted in me cutting my main plan of five characters to three. So out of the hero, sidekick, main boss, mini boss, and henchman I chose to only to the hero, main boss and mini boss and I felt that I spent a good amount of time on them to create the different designs.

The Final Product

I feel that the idea of a turnaround greatly strengthens my final project. This is because it shows the characters from the front, back and front. This allows the audience to get the full view of the characters designs which further allows me to get better feedback because they can see the full thing and give their one hundred percent review.

Areas for my final product to improve involve things like improving the quality, so they are not pixelated and to colour the whole piece so there’s no white pixels or areas in the product.

There was one big change that massively improved my overall final design. When getting some feedback on my Chronos’ thorned armour, I asked my mother what she thought and she said, “it looks like he was pulled through a thorn bush backwards” basically meaning that there were too many thorns. So, I erased the thorns on the arms, leaving thorns on the shoulders and writs and then added thorns to front of the wrists and shoulders to give off a curved and rounded look and this already made it look ten times better.

I believe my final project is suitable for its intended audience, this is because when I had finished and gave of the questionnaire to see which designs people liked best, I got quite a few responses. This showing the audience liked my work, and the ones with the most votes would have been the most liked design further showing off that is suitable for the audience as they have chosen that design.

I felt good about some of the feedback, when choosing the design, the audience liked best, so far some of my favourite designs were the highest voted such as Chronos’ thorned armour and Chronos with a scar and blind eye. However, I was slightly saddened by the feedback and how things like the Lucky eyepatch design did not have the most votes. But overall, the feedback given was a great help.

Final

At the start of the unit, I felt that I could easily design five characters each with three different designs. This was because I felt confident in my digital art skills, and I wanted to play to my strengths. Which were that I am good at digital art. However, I did also lose focus, which was one of my weaknesses in the face that I can get distracted easily which is why I could not do five of the characters I wanted to do and went down to the main boss, mini boss, and hero.

I have learnt that it takes a considerable amount of time to create five designs and you must be in the right mood and be motivated to carry on drawing and make them look good, which I did not part of the way through, which is another reason why I could not make five characters and settled with just the main three.

Moving forwards, I would only draw when I feel motivated and instead of not doing anything, I could use that time to research and get feedback on things. Also, when moving forward, I would take the time to really listen and even go off to find quotes to back up my ideas. And when doing a portfolio to get that distinction grade, I should say what my research it is, why I did it and explain how it will help.
